Comments on 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Over Labor Day weekend, we went to see 'Guardians of the Galaxy', the Marvel Comics superhero movie.  The movie, directed by John Gunn from a script by Nicole Perlman, was the biggest box office draw of the summer, and the year so far.  We didn't bother with the IMAX or 3D version.

The movie revolves around Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) a human abducted from Earth as a child.  He is joined by Gamora (Zoe Saldana) a green trained assassin, Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) a muscular warrior with bulging red veins, Rocket (the voice of Bradley Cooper) a genetically modified raccoon, and Groot (Vin Diesel) a tree-like humanoid.

The five unlikely buddies try to protect 'the orb' that contains a stone with miraculously destructive powers that had been stolen by Peter from the arch villain, Ronan, a Kree.  There are lots of other villains and accomplices that keep the plot twisting and turning and churning along outpacing logic.

The interactions between Rocket and Groot, who only knows the phrase 'I am Groot', provide wonderful comic relief as Rocket interprets that phrase as part of their conversations.

If you're looking for a light, fun movie with space ships and intergalactic adventures, explosions and destruction this is probably as good as it gets.
